Physical Education
Vision
At Rushall Primary School, we recognise the importance of PE and its role in promoting long term healthy lifestyles. The intent of our PE curriculum is to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision. It is our vision for every pupil to succeed and achieve their potential by pushing boundaries and taking risks as well as to lead physically active lifestyles.
We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging PE lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all. We want our pupils to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and physically active lifestyle. Through our teaching of PE, we will provide opportunities for pupils to develop values and transferable life skills such as fairness and respect as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sport. We aim to equip our children with the skills, knowledge and understanding they will need to progress to life beyond Rushall to continue a healthy and active lifestyle.
The aims for each child are:
to enable children to develop and explore physical skills with increasing control and coordination;
to encourage children to work and play with others in a range of group situations;
to develop the way children perform skills, apply rules and conventions for different activities;
to increase children’s ability to use what they have learnt to improve the quality and control of their performance;
to teach children to recognise and describe how their bodies feel during exercise;
to develop the children’s enjoyment of physical activity through creativity and imagination;
to develop an understanding in children of how to succeed in a range of physical activities and how to evaluate their own success.
to develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
to ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate in high quality school swimming, delivered by appropriately qualified people in a safe environment (ASA aim)
to be physically active for sustained periods of time.
to engage in competitive sports and activities.
to lead healthy and active lives
Our Physical Education lead is: Miss Abbie Osborn
We plan the PE activities so that they build upon the prior learning of the children. While there are opportunities for children of all abilities to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in each activity area, there is planned progression built into the scheme of work, so that the children are increasingly challenged as they move up through the school.
We use a variety of teaching and learning styles in PE lessons across the school. Our principal aim is to develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding in fundamental core skills and we do this through a mixture of whole class teaching and individual/group activities. Teachers draw attention to good examples of individual performance as models for the other children and we encourage the children to evaluate their own work as well as the work of other children. Within lessons we give the children the opportunity both to collaborate and to compete with each other; using and accessing a range of different PE resources.
